! It learns how you lose · not how you average

Find the weak spot in your chess — before they do.

Most trainers feed you random puzzles and call it practice. Weakspot watches how you actually lose — the forks you walk into, the back-rank you forget, the move you always rush — and drills the gap until it closes. Start with the puzzle below. It's real, and it's waiting for your move.

This board is real. Make the move.

No video, no mockup. A genuine tactic, validated move-by-move. Find the idea and the board responds — miss it, and it shows you exactly where you went wrong. This is one puzzle. Weakspot has one for every weakness you have.

White to play and win.

There's a single move that turns the position. Click a white piece to see its legal moves, then play the one that lands the blow. Trust the pattern.

Your move. Take your time — Weakspot is watching how you search, not just whether you land it.
How it learns you

Three moves to a trainer that knows your blind spots.

It isn't another endless puzzle stream. It's a loop that gets sharper every time you play — built around the one thing generic apps ignore: you.

Step 01

Import your real games

Connect Chess.com or Lichess, or paste a PGN. Weakspot replays your losses through an engine and finds the exact moments you let the win slip — the move before the move you regret.

Step 02

It names your weakness

Not "you're 1450." Something useful: you miss back-rank mates, you hang pieces in time pressure, you never see the quiet move. Seventeen patterns, ranked by how much rating they're costing you.

Step 03

You drill the gap, not the average

Every session targets your worst pattern first, then spaces it for memory. Close one weakness and the next surfaces. You don't grind 10,000 puzzles — you fix the 6 that lose you games.

The weakness map

See the leak before it sinks the game.

After a handful of games, Weakspot draws you a map most players never get: a ranked, honest read of where your tactics break — and a clear order to fix them in.

Tactical weakness map

player · you
Back-rank mates86%
Quiet moves74%
Knight forks52%
Time-trouble blunders44%
Pins & skewers19%
Discovered attacks12%
Fix back-rank first — it's costing you an estimated ~70 rating on its own.

Generic training treats every gap as equal. Yours aren't.

A 200-puzzle streak feels productive. But if 4 of every 5 losses trace back to the same blind spot, you're rehearsing what you're already good at and avoiding the thing that actually beats you.

Weakspot ranks the percentage of your losses each pattern explains, estimates the rating it's quietly costing you, and puts them in repair order. Close the top of the list and watch the whole map fall.

A coach's eye. An engine's certainty.

+214

Median rating lift in 90 days

Across players who drilled their top weakness three times a week. Not magic — just practice aimed at the right target instead of a random one. Individual results vary with starting level and consistency.

Spaced for memory

Beat a pattern and it returns days later, just before you'd forget. The schedule is automatic — you just show up.

Five minutes, real

Sessions are short on purpose. Targeted reps beat marathon grinds that just tire your pattern recognition out.

Your games are private by default

Imports are analyzed for your eyes only. We never publish your losses, sell your data, or train public models on your play. The whole point is an honest mirror — so we treat it like one.

Every device

Drill on the train, review on the laptop. It syncs.

Explains the why

Every miss comes with the idea you didn't see — in words, not just arrows.

"I'd done 8,000 puzzles and plateaued. Weakspot told me 70% of my losses were one thing — quiet moves. Two weeks on that alone and I broke 1600 for the first time."

"It's almost rude how accurate the map is. 'You hang pieces under 30 seconds.' Yeah. I do. Saw it, drilled it, and my time-scrambles stopped being free losses."

"Other apps feel like a treadmill. This feels like a coach who watched my last ten games and circled the problem. Five minutes a day and the circles keep moving down the list."

Honest answers

Before you make a move.

Is the puzzle on this page actually playable? +
Yes — completely. It runs a real move generator in your browser, validates every legal move, and follows the puzzle's solution line. Click a white piece to see its legal moves, play the winning idea, and the board responds and continues the tactic. Miss it and it tells you why. Nothing is faked or pre-recorded.
How does it actually know my weaknesses? +
When you import games, Weakspot runs each one through an engine to find your critical mistakes — the moves where your position went from winning or equal to lost. It classifies each into one of seventeen tactical patterns, then ranks them by how often they appear and how much rating they cost you. The result is a weakness map that's specific to your play, not a generic curriculum.
Do I need to connect an account to try it? +
No. The live puzzle here needs nothing. To get a personalized weakness map you'll import games — either by connecting Chess.com / Lichess read-only, or by pasting a PGN. You can start completely anonymously and only sign up when you want your map saved.
I'm a beginner. Is this too advanced? +
It adapts to you. Beginners usually have the most to gain because their weaknesses are the most concentrated — fixing one or two patterns can move your rating fast. Puzzles are pitched at your level and get harder only as you're ready. If you can play a legal game, you can use Weakspot.
What happens to my game data? +
It's analyzed for you and kept private. We don't publish your games, sell your data, or train public models on your play. You can delete your imports and your account at any time, and your weakness map goes with you. The whole product depends on being an honest mirror, so we guard it like one.
Will this replace a human coach? +
No — and it's not trying to. A coach reads your psychology, your openings, your nerves. Weakspot does the one thing that's tedious to do by hand: comb every game for the exact tactical patterns that keep costing you, and drill them on a schedule. Plenty of our users bring their weakness map to their coach and get more out of both.
